The latest

First of all, Brad and I go to an amazing fertility clinic. Our first experience with a fertility clinic was less than stellar. We felt like just some other couple and just some more money. No personal touch at all. We were referred to Southwest Fertility Clinic, Dr. Sujatha Gunnala, by some friends in our church. Our first consultation last 2 hours! Boy, were we surprised and, more importantly, overjoyed when we only had to pay $25 for our visit. Our first clinic? $350.
Tests have been done, all bodily modesty has been breached and results are in. My endometriosis is a
stage four. Endometriosis disease basically means that the tissue, much like the lining of my uterus, grows outside of my uterus, mainly affecting my pelvic region (ovaries and fallopian tubes). Usually the only way endometriosis is diagnosed is through a laparoscopic surgery. I had this surgery last year to remove endometrioma cysts on the left ovary. Well, those little suckers are back. Survey says? I need surgery again.
The initial ultrasound, one of the many test, indicated that I have another endometrioma cyst on the left ovary again. This basically affects the egg supply with that ovary – meaning I have no eggs coming from that side. A little imbalanced.
Dr G believes the best solution is to treat the endometriosis and then proceed with
IVF. Which means surgery. However, even surgery doesn’t guarantee that we’ll proceed with IVF. Dr. G also mentioned that she may not remove the cysts at all if the cyst is fused to the ovary. This might mean more damage to the ovary. Not good. It would be nice to keep them unharmed for a little while longer. And if the cyst was to be removed, the IVF may be rejected because the endometriosis might reject the implanted embryo.
Apparently, a lot of “what ifs” and a lot of money needed for trial and error.
My only advice to those with similar fertility problems is seek a specialist. Don’t waste time with a regular OB/GYN or some fertility doctor you are not totally satisfied with. It’s not worth the money and time.
Possibly good news, apparently there is an endometriosis diet out there. I’ve ordered some books online. More to come.
